ICCR Scholarships


The Scholarship Scheme is sponsored by the Indian Council for cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous body under administrative control of Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. The nodal agency for administering the scheme from the Zambian side is the Ministry of Higher Education. The selection Criterion is determined by the Education Loans and Scholarship Board of the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Republic of Zambia.

 Under the Scheme, a total of 16 scholarships are offered annually to Zambian nationals to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses through Indian Universities. The interested candidates are requested to achieve adequate level of English Proficiency before applying for above mentioned Scholarship Schemes as Medium of Instruction in India is English.

 Courses offered:


 Bachelor of Arts in Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Philosophy, English, Sociology, Psychology, Mathematics and Anthropology

 Bachelor of Science in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Zoology, Botany and Computer Science. B.Tech (Civil, Electrical Mechanical, B.E (Civil Eng, IT Eng, Computer Eng) etc.

 Bachelor of Commerce /BBA in Business Administration, BBM (IB)

 Post Graduate:

Master of Arts in Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Philosophy, English, Sociology, Psychology, Mathematics and Anthropology

Master of Science in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Zoology, Botany, Computer Science. ME (Civil) Water Resource Management, M.E. (Civil/ Transportation Eng), M.E. (Environmental Management), M.E. (Information & Technology), M.E. (Electronics & Communication), M.E. (Civil Eng / Structural Eng) etc.

Terms and Conditions:

The Scholarship Scheme covers tuition fees, air fare, and accommodation and provides a limited living allowance.

Medical Reimbursement under the Scheme:  In case of illness, students should first visit the University/institute’s clinic for treatment. The students may subsequently visit a government hospital or a private hospital on the CGHS/University’s panel with the written recommendation of University’s Medical officer, and only if that particular Medical treatment or procedure is unavailable in the University clinic

Procedure for application:

All applications are to be made to the higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board, Ministry of Higher Education of Zambia.

Applications of selected candidates are forwarded to ICCR, New Delhi for their admission in various Universities in India after due scrutiny at the High Commission of India Lusaka.

All prospective students are advised to read very carefully the Instructions / Policy Guidelines / FAQs, etc before applying for the scholarship programme.

Only complete application forms along with required documents will be accepted. The Universities and Colleges in India are autonomous bodies and selection of the candidate for admission in particular University /College is not only competitive but rigorous also. It is prerogative of the concerned University/College to select the candidate for admission under the scheme or not. Therefore, only submission of the application form does not confirm admission. The prospective students, therefore, must do due diligence & research on the specific admission criteria laid down by the various Universities for each subject, and ensure that you fulfill the criteria of admission and submit all relevant documentation as required by the Universities in addition to the basic certificates mentioned in the application form.

The list of universities where ICCR scholars are usually studying is available on the ICCR Website at The prospective students may kindly be advised to check the list very carefully before applying for the University and course.

The following guidelines should be noted by the students filling up the applications:

§  In case of the scholars pursuing Science courses, the expenditure on laboratory chemicals and other related incidental charges will be borne by the scholar.

§  For B.E./B. Tech Courses, it may be ensured that the candidates must have taken Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) in their school leaving examinations as this is mandatory for the Engineering courses.

§  Only Students proficient in English language may be recommended for Admission.

§  Only those students who reach their age of 18 years by July, 2019 will be recommended.

§  ICCR does not arrange admission in Medical/Paramedical (Nursing/Physiotherapy/Anesthesia etc.)/Fashion courses.

§  Kindly make sure that the candidates are not suffering from life threatening illness or any other medical condition requiring long term treatment.

§  Return economy class airfares to the airport nearest to their place of study and train fares to the nearest railway station if so required would be provided to the students selected under these schemes.

§  All selected students have to stay in hostels. No Exception for family or health reasons will be entertained.

§  The application will automatically be rejected if any column or document is inaccurate/missing/incomplete or blank.

§  While filling the application form, no abbreviations should be used. Write full name of degree, course, organization, institution, university, designation, etc.

§  Applications will only be accepted through the Online ICCR A2A Portal (

We request that candidates may kindly follow the above mentioned procedures very carefully and send their applications through the nodal authority (Education Loans and Scholarship Board of the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Republic of Zambia).

It may also be noted that sufficient command of English language for pursuing higher education in India is an essential prerequisite. Students selected under this scheme have to undergo English Test which may be conducted by the High Commission if found necessary.
